Biography
Blood harmony is what you hear when two siblings learn to love music in the same house.
Rice Out The Window began with a three-year-old Gabrielle planting herself in front of two grandfathers and telling them to stop picking on her brother. Clancy has returned the favour ever since. They still argue over one chord for an hour, finish each other’s songs and close ranks when anyone else tries it on.
The Melbourne siblings write in pairs. Gabrielle’s Runaway, a thank-you to the friend who stayed close, finds its sibling in Tea Packets. The songs share a roof, but never quite the same life. One sibling writes what happened. The other knows what was left out.
On stage, those private stories become full-size rock songs: Gabrielle at the centre, Clancy on keys and guitar, a pub-rock rhythm section and female-led brass that hits like a big band walking into a punk show. The songs ask difficult questions, then refuse to stand still.
The lyrics might bruise. The music moves.
